People seem to recognize / that the arts are cultural activities that draw on (or react against) certain cultural traditions,

certain shared understanding, and certain values and ideas that are characteristic of the time and place in which the art is created.

사람들은 인식하는 것 같다 / 예술은   특정 문화적 전통, 특정 공유 지식, 그리고 예술이 만들에 내는 시대와 장소의 특징을 나타내는  특정 가치와 아이디어에 반응하는 (또는 이에 반대해서 반응하는)  문화적 활동이다.
